Birch Run Fire Department has had four Chiefs:

Louis Lather               1941 - December 1956

Oswald Schmitzer        January 1957 - June 1985

Tom Totten                 August 1985 - May 1987

Jim Letterman            June 1987 - Present

Birch Run Township Fire Department was chartered in 1941 as a volunteer fire department.  Our current members are on a paid on call status.

In addition to firefighting, our department also provides medical care at the Medical First Responder (MFR) level.     

Through cooperation, an exchange of ideas, education and experience, the members of the Saginaw County Fire Association work within their fire departments and other public safety agencies to provide the best possible degree of fire protection and prevention for the citizens throughout the County of Saginaw. 

In Memory of Timothy Sanborn

Former Birch Run Firefighter, Timothy Sanborn suffered a fatal heart attack  while operating the pump at a structure fire on June 22, 2007.  He was a member of the Clinton area Fire and Rescue department.

*The Birch Run Township Fire Department congratulates our newest members in successfully completing the Saginaw Township Fire Academy and achieving their Firefighter I and II certifications.
